      Attracting Wildlife

Conservation means creating, maintaining and improving habitats for wildlife and fish. If you want to bring wildlife to you, we can offer a number of programs and opportunities to do just help you.

Habitat Food Plots

In cooperation with the Scott Pheasants Forever Chapter, you can pick up free corn, sorghum and sunflowers for food plots every spring – great for attracting pheasants, wild turkey or deer.

Native Tree, Shrub and Grass Plantings

Each fall, you, as a Scott County resident, are invited to purchase young trees and shrubs (seedlings) to use for windbreaks, wildlife cover or landscaping. With an emphasis on Minnesota native plantings, we can also help you make selections based on your conservation goals. To add your name to the annual tree mailing list, send an email to dhrabe@co.scott.mn.us.

Wetland Habitats for Waterfowl

Ducks, geese and other waterfowl inhabit our wetlands throughout Scott County. To preserve and protect these areas, we can be a resource to you – whether you want to apply pesticides and other chemicals to your fields; control noxious weeds; keep wetland borders natural and unmowed; or heal wetlands so they can drain and hold water during rain events.

Other Backyard Tips to Bringing Nature to You…

* Buy a bird feeder and bird bath, and keep them filled and clean.
* Plant deep-rooted native flowers and plants that attract butterflies and bees, while reducing runoff into stormsewer systems.
