 Each year, we select a landowner or family in Scott County who has demonstrated outstanding stewardship on their land. Our local selection and other top conservationists from other counties throughout the state are then recognized at the Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation District Convention.
We believe these individuals, families and businesses exemplify superior water and soil protection and preservation practices and are passionate about the future of our natural resources. Each of us can learn from these outstanding conservationists who live and breathe stewardhip at every turn – whether it’s gully repair, feedlot runoff control, raingardens, shoreline restoration, riparian buffers or innovative projects, all of these efforts result in a healthier environment here in Scott County. Congratulations to all!

The City of Prior Lake is the2011 Outstanding Conservationist of the Year, selected for its innovative and diligent care of natural resources in Scott County. Nominated by the Scott Soil and Water Conservation District, the City was also chosen as one of the top finalists in the entire state. The City will be recognized at the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD) Convention in December. Prior Lake, with its more than 23,000 residents, 14 lakes, 54 parks and 100 miles of sidewalks and trails, has proven that local governments can be “out-of-the-box” environmental stewards of the land.
As an example, the City of Prior Lake is making every attempt to keep its lakes clean, control erosion and “naturalize” its urban areas. One such effort is its “Smart” Snow and Ice Control Program that helped lower chloride concentrations in local lakes...
